Abby quickly pulled her arm back and held her breath. Her father woke up as a result but was still so sleepy that he walked right past her on his way upstairs. Once she heard the door to her parents’ bedroom close, Abby grabbed the key from the floor and ran outside.
She was halfway to the shed when she suddenly stopped. She had stepped on something before and didn’t want to step on something again, so she quickly turned around and grabbed her slippers. When she reached the shed, she slowly inserted the key into the lock and turned around.
