The door slammed shut behind her as she raced up the stairs and jumped into bed. Abby held her breath as she listened to the sound of her father leaving the shed and creeping closer.
She could hear the creaking sound of each step he took on the staircase, and as he got closer, her heart raced faster. Soon enough, he stood silently in her room.
