Detox diets come with their fair share of drawbacks and risks as well. One of the most significant concerns is that extreme detox diets can lead to nutrient deficiencies due to restricted food choices. For instance, some detox diets prohibit the consumption of protein or certain essential nutrients, which can be harmful in the long run.

Furthermore, rapid weight loss achieved through detox diets is typically unsustainable. Much of the initial weight lost during a cleanse is primarily water weight and can be quickly regained once you return to your regular eating habits.
