Rising Death Toll and Destruction Unleashed by Russian Attacks in Ukraine

Casualties and Injuries from Russian Attacks in Ukraine

In the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, at least six civilians have been killed as a result of Russian artillery shelling and drone attacks. According to Ukraine’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Ihor Klymenko, in the northeastern Ukrainian region of Sumy, two teachers were killed in a drone attack on a school in the city of Romny. In the eastern Ukrainian region of Donetsk, authorities reported three civilian casualties. In the southern Ukrainian region of Kherson, at least one person was killed in Russian attacks.

The intense attacks have also resulted in numerous injuries in all affected areas. Massive artillery, drone, and rocket attacks have also targeted the neighboring region of Zaporizhzhia, with no reported civilian casualties, according to local authorities.

According to Ukrainian intelligence, Ukraine claimed to have destroyed a Russian S-400 “Triumph” air defense system on the annexed Crimean peninsula. The explosion reportedly resulted in complete destruction of the facility, its associated missiles, and the operating personnel. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky promised the liberation of the peninsula, as well as all other parts of the country occupied by Russia. The President emphasized that the Ukrainian Armed Forces would continue to advance regardless of any resistance.

In attacks on Ukrainian ports, Kiev reports that 270,000 tons of grain have been destroyed in the span of one month. Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov stated in online media that “Russia systematically attacks grain storage facilities and warehouses to halt agricultural exports.” Kubrakov further wrote, “a total of 270,000 tons of grain have been destroyed in attacks on ports within one month.” He criticized the attacks, which targeted “African and Asian countries already lacking food supplies.” Kubrakov provided details of specific attacks, such as a recent incident reducing the export capacity of the port of Ismail by 15%, and the loss of 35,000 tons of grain at the port of Reni. He stated that this was the eighth attack on port infrastructure since Russia withdrew from the grain agreement.

According to Ukrainian military sources, further territorial gains have been made by the Ukrainian army in the Zaporizhzhia region in southern Ukraine. Ukrainian units have reportedly consolidated their positions near the settlement of Novoprokopivka, southeast of the long-contested village of Robotyne. General Staff spokesman Andriy Kovalyov confirmed these gains, adding that artillery duels were ongoing. However, the capture of Robotyne itself has not yet been officially announced by Kyiv.

According to reports from Ukrainian media, a Russian Mi-8 helicopter was lured into Ukrainian territory by Ukrainian intelligence along with its crew. Multiple Ukrainian media sources, citing intelligence agency officials, stated that the pilot had been persuaded to defect. Military Intelligence spokesman Andriy Yussow confirmed the incident on television but did not provide any details. He simply stated, “Work is being done, including with the crew. Everything is fine, and there will be updates.”

The internet portal “Ukrajinska Prawda” reported that the helicopter had landed in the Kharkiv region of eastern Ukraine. According to the portal, two uninformed members of the crew were killed, while the pilot remained in Ukraine along with his family, who had previously fled from Russia. However, these reports have not yet been officially confirmed. Earlier, Russian military bloggers had reported on a Mi-8 helicopter that had been missing for several weeks. It was alleged that the helicopter had lost its orientation and landed at a Ukrainian airfield near the central Ukrainian city of Poltava. During subsequent combat, the pilot was reportedly injured and the rest of the crew killed.
