Declining Population
Over the past 25 years, the population of Western lowland gorillas, like Djalta and Ima, has declined by approximately 60%. Due to the elusive nature of gorillas, calculating the exact number is challenging, but the decrease is alarming.
The population decline is mainly attributed to human intervention and diseases like Ebola. Poachers sometimes hunt gorillas for their meat, as a sport, or for trophies. Currently, all gorilla species are either endangered or critically endangered. This is something Damian and his family are striving to change.
