Curious Daughter Uncovers Father’s Dark Secret
Abby accidentally witnessed her father sneaking into the shed late at night, something he had never done before. Intrigued, she decided to follow him and find out what he was up to.
Like any curious twelve-year-old, she quickly put on her jacket and made her way to the shed. However, her father became suspicious and intercepted her a few meters away from it.
“No entry allowed”
Abby’s father made it clear that she was not allowed to enter the shed, which was strange because she had always been able to freely access it whenever she needed something.
Her father had even sent her to the shed on multiple occasions to fetch a shovel or a rake. This led Abby to believe that he was hiding something, and she was determined to find out what that was!
Sneaking in anyway
The following day when her father was not at home, Abby saw an opportunity to enter the shed and uncover the mystery her father was keeping hidden.
Her heart raced as she approached with the key in her hand. With trembling hands, she inserted the key into the lock, only to turn around and see her father pulling into the driveway.
She couldn’t hold back her tears
Abby froze. Should she still go inside? There was no turning back now, so she pushed the door open. In the middle of the shed, there was something she didn’t immediately recognize. But as soon as she did, all she could do was scream and cry.
But what could be such a terrible secret that her father had to hide it from her in the shed? To understand that, we need to go back a moment and start from the beginning.
Abby’s life
Abby lived with her parents, Florence and Conner McAllen, in a small house in the countryside. She had average neighbors and attended a typical village school with her friends.
On the surface, her life seemed perfectly normal, like millions of other children. However, the truth about her father that Abby was about to uncover was anything but normal. To put it mildly, it was unusual.
Heading to the shed
One evening, while Abby was watching TV in the living room, she heard the back door of her parents’ house slam shut with a loud noise. At first, she didn’t think much of it.
Her father occasionally went outside to fetch more firewood, and when his hands were full, he would give the door a kick with his foot. So, it wasn’t unusual for the door to make a noise.
Listening intently
But normally, the door only slammed shut when her father brought in a load of firewood. This time, however, her father had gone outside while Abby was still in the house. Abby slowly got up from her seat and listened to the silence in her home.
Her mother was having dinner at a friend’s place, so Abby knew she was alone with her father. But now it seemed like he was gone too. That was very strange because Abby wasn’t allowed to be home alone. She was only twelve.
Calling her father
She went into the kitchen as she dialed her father’s phone. She heard a buzzing sound coming from his jacket and realized he had left his jacket, along with his phone, in the kitchen.
Now she knew he couldn’t be far since he was only wearing jeans and a T-shirt. Then she heard a noise coming from the backyard. Things were getting stranger by the minute!
Where was he?
Her heart began to race as she approached the steps to the back door. What if it wasn’t her father? What if there was an intruder and he was trying to defend against them?
But soon, it became clear to her that her father was indeed still at home. He was busy in the shed. Abby let out a relieved sigh. However, her relief was short-lived because her father had never worked in the shed at this time before.
He heard her
She wondered what he was doing there and quickly put on a pair of slippers. She stepped out onto the yard and let the back door fall shut behind her. Her father must have heard the door close because he suddenly appeared.
“Sweetheart, hello!” he said as he approached Abby, looking caught off guard. “What are you doing out here in the cold? Let’s get you back inside, shall we? Would you like a hot chocolate?”
She follows her father
Of course, Abby wanted a hot chocolate. But Abby wasn’t naive. She knew that her father was just trying to distract her from her interest in the shed. But she also had a weakness for a good cup of hot chocolate.
So Abby followed her father inside. He made her the best hot chocolate she had in a long time, and they sat together at the dining table, sipping it. “What were you doing in the shed, Dad?” she finally asked him.
She knew something was off
Her father shifted nervously in his seat, telling her that he was just organizing things in there. He probably thought that was a boring enough reason to make her lose interest.
But what he didn’t know was that she had gone into the shed just a week ago, and it was spotlessly clean and well-organized. His explanation only raised more questions. Why would he lie to her?
It stayed in her mind
Shortly after, Abby’s mother returned home, and her parents tucked her into bed together. Abby didn’t utter a word about the shed, not wanting to start a fight between her parents.
However, the mystery occupied little Abby’s mind throughout the night. From her room, she could see a portion of the shed, so she went to the window to check. She looked at her clock first and noticed that it was past midnight.
Past midnight
She hadn’t expected the light to be on but wanted to check anyway. And to her surprise, the light was on! Abby could even see movements inside the shed.
Her father had obviously returned to the shed while her mother was sleeping. Abby’s curiosity was piqued. Not only was her father lying to her, but her mother as well.
He had lied to both of them
She tiptoed from her room to her parents’ room to see if her mother was indeed still there, and she was. Then Abby slowly crept down the stairs and out through the back door.
This time, she had learned from her mistake and didn’t let the door fall shut. She closed it gently behind her, almost silently. She paused for a moment to make sure her father hadn’t heard her, and then proceeded to the shed.
She Saw Only Shadows
She heard the sound of her father, busy halfway through the yard, so he didn’t hide that he was there. But when she reached the shed, she noticed that he had hung garbage bags in front of the windows.
All she could see were shadows, making it impossible for her to take a peek inside. She listened silently, hoping to hear what her father was doing. Maybe she could make sense of the noise.
Who was he talking to?
But everything was very chaotic, and he wasn’t using any tools. It actually sounded like he was talking to someone, but Abby didn’t hear any response. Could he be on the phone?
Abby couldn’t hear what he was saying, only muffled sounds and sometimes laughter. Whatever he was doing, it seemed to bring him joy. So why would he keep it a secret from his wife and daughter?
Running inside
Abby was about to knock on the door and confront her father when he suddenly stopped talking, and another noise echoed through the walls. The second sound was anything but positive.
It sent a shiver down Abby’s spine. After hearing the noise, she didn’t want to stay near the shed any longer, so she ran back into the house, forgetting to close the door slowly.
She held her breath
The door slammed shut behind her as she raced up the stairs and jumped into bed. Abby held her breath as she listened to the sound of her father leaving the shed and creeping closer.
She could hear the creaking sound of each step he took on the staircase, and as he got closer, her heart raced faster. Soon enough, he stood silently in her room.
Pretending to be asleep
Abby lay as still as she could, closing her eyes and pretending to be asleep. She could feel the warmth of his breath on her cheek as he peered over the side of her face to see if she was really asleep.
Then he slowly retreated and went to his own room for the night. The next morning, tensions arose between Abby and her father. It was obvious to her, but her mother had no idea.
Going to the shed
Why would she? She had slept through the night, and only Abby knew what she had heard from the shed. The rest of the day, she couldn’t stop thinking about that awful sound.
As soon as she got home from school, she decided it was finally time to go to the shed. Her father wasn’t home yet, so it was the perfect opportunity. Her mother was busy in the kitchen, cooking dinner, and didn’t think twice about Abby playing in the backyard. So she went to the backyard and played for a bit as a decoy.
The door was locked
When Abby realized her mother wasn’t paying attention anymore, she stopped playing and slowly approached the shed. Her heart was pounding in her chest as she reached out her hand for the handle and pushed it down.
But the door wouldn’t budge. It was locked. But Abby wasn’t going to give up. She knew the gardening tools were inside the shed, so she went inside the house and asked her mother something with mischievous, sparkling eyes.
Deceiving her mother
Abby asked her mother if she could get the small shovels that were in the shed to play as a gardener in the backyard. Her mother didn’t see any problem with that and said she could get them from the shed.
When Abby told her that the shed was locked, her mother looked visibly surprised. Her mother went to the shed and tried it herself, apparently confused that it wouldn’t open.
Hurry Up
“Darn it, Conner,” she murmured as she went back inside and frantically searched the key compartment. Abby waited patiently, but her father could be home any minute. Finally, her mother found the key and handed it to Abby.
Abby swiftly took the key from her mother and rushed to the shed. She felt like she needed to hurry because she didn’t want to be near the shed when her father came home.
She froze
She inserted the key into the lock and turned around as she heard her father pulling into the driveway. Abby froze. Should she still go inside or should she run back in and hope her mother wouldn’t say anything?
She knew her mother couldn’t keep a secret, especially if she didn’t even know it was a secret. So she decided to go in anyway. There, she could hide from her father and just hope for the best.
Opening the door
She slowly opened the door, trying not to make any noise. Her father was now getting out of his car and heading towards the front door. There was only a small fence between them, so even the slightest creak could be heard.
She paused for a moment, listening as her father opened the front door, then quickly went inside. The shed was dark, but Abby was too afraid to turn on the light.
A dark shed
Her father would surely notice it from inside the house. She tried to feel her way around with her hands, but kept bumping into things. Then suddenly, she felt a sharp pain in her foot and screamed.
She knew her parents had heard her, so she quickly rushed out of the shed just as her parents came running into the garden. “Abby? What’s wrong? What were you doing in there?” her father asked frantically as he hurried towards the shed door and quickly closed it.
She kicked a nail
Abby was crying in pain as she held onto her foot. There was some blood, and her mother immediately brought her back into the house. There, she examined the wound and found a tiny nail.
Abby must have stepped on it since she wasn’t wearing any shoes. “Conner, haven’t you cleaned up and swept the shed yet?” her mother scolded her father angrily.
Lying to her father
Abbys father was now as pale as a ghost. “I thought I had cleared everything! I’m so sorry, Abbs. But what were you doing in there? Did you see anything or, uh, find something?” her father stammered.
Abby shook her head. “I was just playing,” she said. She didn’t want her father to get suspicious. After that night, her father always kept the key to the shed with him.
Always keep the key handy
Her mother didn’t notice because her father had replaced it with a different key on the same keychain as a distraction. But Abby watched every movement her father made.
There had to be a reason why he was acting so strangely about the shed. She knew she had to hurry even more now because her father could relocate his secret project to another location.
She had to hurry
She was certain that he felt guilty because Abby had stepped on a nail at his workplace, so there was a good chance he would move the place in the next few days.
Abby knew her father would have a few beers every Friday. And whenever he did, he always fell into a deep sleep, sometimes even in front of the television. When Friday came, she was ready.
He Wasn’t There
She pretended to be asleep until her clock read 12:00 midnight. Now, silently, Abby walked to her parents’ room. She slowly opened the door and approached her father’s side of the bed.
But to her surprise, she only saw her mother sleeping. That probably meant her father fell asleep in front of the television, so she quietly went downstairs.
He was fast asleep
The TV was still on, which was good because Abby stepped on a very creaky floorboard. The sound of the floorboard echoed throughout the house, and Abby’s heart pounded in her chest.
She closed her eyes, expecting her father to turn around and see her, but instead, he let out a loud snore. Abby sighed with relief, realizing her father had fallen asleep in his chair.
Reaching for the key
She slowly approached the chair, listening to her father’s snoring. She crouched behind his chair, just in case he woke up. The key was partially sticking out of his pocket, dangling from the keyring.
Abby reached her arm straight forward, but could only barely reach the key with her fingertips. Suddenly, the key started slipping and fell clattering to the floor.
He woke up
Abby quickly pulled her arm back and held her breath. Her father woke up as a result but was still so sleepy that he walked right past her on his way upstairs. Once she heard the door to her parents’ bedroom close, Abby grabbed the key from the floor and ran outside.
She was halfway to the shed when she suddenly stopped. She had stepped on something before and didn’t want to step on something again, so she quickly turned around and grabbed her slippers. When she reached the shed, she slowly inserted the key into the lock and turned around.
A creaking door
The door was old and made of thick wood, so Abby knew it would creak if she opened it slowly. For that reason, she assumed it wouldn’t make much noise if she opened it quickly. And she was right. She opened the door and swiftly stepped inside.
She didn’t have her phone or a flashlight with her and had to find the light switch. The shed was dark and cold, and Abby waited a few minutes for her eyes to adjust to the darkness. She saw all sorts of creepy figures in the shed, and suddenly, she desperately wanted to leave.
A creepy shed
Abby felt her heart pounding in her chest, and it was hard for her to breathe quietly. Wherever she looked, she saw something that scared her. She desperately searched for a light switch near the door, but it wasn’t there. She reached a little to the side, but quickly pulled her hand back as she felt something sticky.
Moments later, something crawled over her hand, and Abby managed to suppress her scream. She had touched a spider web, and the spider had landed on her hand. Abby swung her hand back and forth until the little creature flew away. Out of frustration, Abby began to cry. She wanted to get out of there.
Abby’s Journey into the Shed of Secrets
Abby, a young and inquisitive girl, embarks on a courageous adventure to uncover the mysteries locked away in her father’s shed. Although filled with trepidation, her desire to unravel the truth pushes her forward. Normally, she would hide under her blankets at the mere sight of a shadow in her room.
Sitting on the floor, tears streaming down her face, Abby contemplates the overwhelming fear of navigating through darkness and unveiling her father’s secret. As her eyes begin to sting from the tears, she wipes them away, determined to find her inner strength.
She must prevail
Abby realizes that nothing will happen if she doesn’t take action herself. Determined to conquer her fears and locate the elusive light switch, she cautiously gets up and searches her surroundings. Her hands find a broom which she uses as her guide through the darkness, gently feeling along the walls until she finally locates the switch.
Flipping it on, a single light bulb illuminates the center of the shed. Accustomed to darkness, Abby shields her eyes from the sudden brightness but quickly adapts. The shed no longer appears as intimidating, but time is of the essence.
Unveiling Something Extraordinary
Phew, they’re still asleep. Abby cautiously opens the door to check if her parents’ bedroom light remains off. Silently closing the door again, she turns her attention to the cluttered shed, filled with an assortment of objects and gardening tools. However, something catches her eye – a peculiar sight at the back of the shed, covered by a white sheet.
Unable to discern its shape, Abby senses an aura of fear surrounding it. The sheet that cloaks the object appears to be stained red, resembling blood. Her heart races and she feels breathless.
Should she uncover the sheet?
Slowly, she approaches the object, cautiously stepping over the mess to prevent any mishaps. As her trembling hands reach out, nervousness causes them to sweat. She feels torn, as if a little angel and devil reside on her shoulders, sowing doubt about whether she should unveil the mystery or not.
Abby extends her hands towards the sheet, grasping it firmly. Avoiding the stained areas, she delicately touches only the white parts. Taking a deep breath and closing her eyes, she prepares to remove the sheet, but something holds her back.
Don’t give up
No, I’m so close. I won’t give up. A sudden thought crosses Abby’s mind, but she swiftly pushes it aside. Counting down from ten, she reaches four when suddenly, someone calls her name. “Abby?” It’s her father.
Startled, Abby quickly releases the sheet and hides behind the lawnmower. She listens as her father draws nearer to the shed, gradually opening the door. “Abby?” he calls out again. “Are you in here?” Abby remains silent, uncertain of what her father would do if he discovered her alongside his secret project.
Abby’s father suddenly shouted
“She’s not here? Where could she be?!” Abby’s mother yelled back from inside the house. It dawned on Abby that both of her parents were looking for her, and judging from the frantic tone in her mother’s voice, they were very concerned. She decided to wait and quickly make her way to her room if they weren’t watching.
But first, she had to wait until her father moved further away from the shed. The door was slightly ajar, allowing her to see her father standing there, uncertain of what to do. Then, upon hearing her mother call him, he rushed inside. Abby quickly got up, preparing to leave, but caught a glimpse of the white sheet in her peripheral vision.
She bumped into a bucket
No, she was so close. Would she really let this perfect opportunity slip away and start over from scratch? she thought. She swiftly turned around but accidentally bumped into a bucket, causing it to crash loudly to the ground. “Abby?!” her father shouted again, making his way towards the shed.
Abby quickly rushed to the object and grabbed the sheet. “Abby!” her father shouted from the shed’s doorway. “Abby, no!” Abby looked her father directly in the eyes and said, “What are you hiding, Daddy? Why can’t I see it?”
Her mother had no clue
Meanwhile, Abby’s mother had joined her husband’s side. “Abby, what are you doing here? Why aren’t you in bed?” “Daddy is hiding something from us, Mom. He’s been acting suspicious all week, and I know because I’ve been watching him!” Her mother looked at her with confusion and then at the red-stained sheet.
“Conner, what is this?” Abby’s mother asked, bewildered. Sweat trickled down his forehead as he tried to come up with a good answer. Abby stood confidently next to the object, clutching the sheet firmly in her hands. When her father didn’t respond, she had had enough and pulled the sheet off.
It was a birthday surprise
Her mother gasped, and Abby stood frozen in shock. Her eyes widened in disbelief. Suddenly, Abby screamed and ran towards her father with tears in her eyes. “Thank you, Dad! Thank you so much!” Abby’s father sighed and embraced his daughter tightly. “You ruined your own birthday surprise, you little monster.”
Abby’s mother smiled at her husband. “I had no idea you were building her first bicycle. And in her favorite color too!” She wrapped her arms around her husband and kissed him on the cheek. “Shall we go back to bed now?” she said to Abby, finally releasing her father.
How it ended
Abby nodded, her cheeks flushed as she turned to her father and apologized for not listening to him. She had completely forgotten that her birthday was just a week away.
Never would she have imagined that it could be a birthday surprise her father was hiding. It looked so eerie that her imagination had run wild, only to discover that it had been a bright red bicycle all along.
